The Installation Of Kitchen Cabinets

Replacing your kitchen cabinets is an expensive proposition, but one that will make a big difference in the look of your kitchen and your home. There is a wide array of cabinets and doors to choose from, from different styles to different materials and colors. A visit to a home improvement store will give you great ideas about what kind of cabinets you like. You may even be able to get a computerized mockup of what your kitchen will look like with the new cabinets.

So when you go shopping for cabinets, bring along a full set of measurements of your entire kitchen. Measure the width of appliances, windows and other areas besides the length and height of the present cabinets. This will help the planning process.

The big home improvement stores are happy to send a representative to your home to double check the measurements before they order the materials. They want to make sure the cabinets they sell you will fit into your kitchen perfectly.

Semi custom cabinets offer a wider range of styles, designs and additional options. They are standard when it comes to the size of the cabinets, but there is a choice in terms of colors and types of wood. They are a higher quality than stock cabinets, and are more expensive.

You can choose a lot of different storage options with semi custom cabinets. Items such as a lazy susan, a wine rack, pull out garbage bin, drawer dividers, pull out shelves and built in spice racks are jsut few of the options you will find. You can choose amoong tese storage and organizing features base upon your family’s needs.

The most expensive choice among cabinets are custom cabinets. As the name suggest, these cabinets are designed and manufactured just for your kitchen. You are not at all limited in style, color, wood, hardware or anything else, since the cabinets will be built upon your order. This comes at a price, and the quality of custom cabinets is also superior and the cabinets will be custom fit to the area. A designer will measure your kitchen and discuss the design of the cabinets with you to find the perfect choice for you.

Now that you know what the choices are, you should start to decide upon a budget for your kitchen cabinets. This will determine which level of cabinets you are going to be choosing from. But even among one class of cabinets, such as stock, there can be a wide range of prices. If you are doing your kitchen over, you should calculate that the cabinets will be about half of the total budget of the kitchen.

When you start to think about the budget, you have to take into consideration how many years use and enjoyment you will get out of your kitchen. If you are moving soon, you may not want to spend too much, but if you are going to have years and years in this house, it may be worthwhile to put more into this investment.

The most important thing is not to give up quality to save a little money. You are better off with a cabinet with a simple design that is well made rather than a fancy one that is shoddy. Pantry Kitchen Cabinets- Revamping A Kitchen Using Pantry Cabinets

I recently did a kitchen renovation job that we nicknamed the blues. The homeowners had a case of the blues, because their kitchen was stuck in the seventies. Furthermore, their kitchen was literally covered in blue. The tiles were blue, with white accent tiles sporadically placed, the cabinets were blue (yes you read that right) and the refrigerator was blue as well. The stove and dishwasher were white, but you get the idea of how blue things were. We decided a complete redesign would cure all of these blues.


We completely gutted the kitchen. Appliances, the blue kitchen cabinets, two large pantry kitchen cabinets, and we stripped the walls of the ugly tiles. After this was done we realized that one of the walls could be knocked out as well. It would be nice to open this wall, but the homeowners also wanted an option to keep part of that wall closed. This is where we turned to the pantry kitchen cabinets. It you’re not familiar with a pantry–a quick definition is as follows: a pantry kitchen cabinet or a kitchen pantry cabinet is a large closet type cupboard in your kitchen. There are a few different styles of height and width. It is eighty four to ninety six inches tall and about eighteen inches to two feet wide. These are the large cabinets that you see in the corners of kitchens. It is basically a food storage cupboard and the name comes from the old style -large, walk in pantries that were in most eighteenth and nineteenth century house designs.


So now that you are more familiar with a pantry kitchen cabinet, we now can go into how these kitchen cabinets helped turn this room into a feature in the house.


The homeowners were on a budget, so I suggested RTA cabinets. (Ready to assemble cabinets, which are pre-assembled cabinets). These cabinets saved the homeowner 00 dollars (Three Thousand Two Hundred Dollars) over a quote they received from Lowe’s. The homeowners were actually familiar with the RTA style kitchen cabinets but were unsure if the RTA cabinets carried the pantry kitchen cabinets. After I informed the homeowners that RTA kitchen cabinets, not only make pantry kitchen cabinets, but the RTA cabinets are actually a better quality than retail stores like IKEA, Home Depot or Lowe’s.


So finally we got to the kitchen, installed RTA kitchen cabinets, painted the kitchen a nice white (no blue), added some accent tiles in a nice shade of brown, and then came to the wall that was removed. We added one pantry to this wall and then had an open space that the homeowners wanted to keep open but also have an option to close it off. This is where we decided to use a double pantry that acts like a false wall. When you opened the double pantry doors, it did not open into a cupboard, instead it opened into the other room. It was a great idea and it demonstrates how there are many uses for a pantry kitchen cabinet. So make sure you add a pantry cabinet to your kitchen and start thinking of the many ways it can be used.

Shopping for Kitchen Cabinets: Choosing the Right Kitchen Cabinet for your Price Range

Kitchen Cabinets are by and large the core of any kitchen. They can be highlighted by kitchen appliances such as the refrigerator, stove, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave, or these appliances can be modified to blend in by using panels that match your kitchen cabinets.

Shopping for kitchen cabinets can be intimidating, especially for a first time buyer. There are hundreds/thousands of major kitchen cabinet companies, and many more smaller custom kitchen cabinet shops where you can get any cabinet made from any species of wood that your mind can imagine. Add to that list the explosion of RTA Kitchen Cabinet importers, and the laminated cabinet manufacturers, and suddenly the list can be overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that higher price always means high quality in construction, or more features being available.

In the past, pricing had always been the way to categorize kitchen cabinets. Traditionally, tthe higher-quality cabinets simply cost more money. As I mentioned before, with more and more importers conforming to the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) building standards, some of the RTA Kitchen Cabinets or Stock kitchen cabinets can actually be a sturdier cabinet than the traditional, made to order cabinets. Regardless of what type of kitchen cabinet you decide to go with, it does not take much effort to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the actual kitchen cabinets.

Most kitchen cabinet manufacturers build their kitchen base and wall cabinets in standard sizes. The kitchen base cabinets are often 34.5 inches tall and 24 inches deep. They come in widths starting at 12 inches and can go up to 48 inches often in increasing width increments of 3 inches. Kitchen wall cabinets are often 12 inches deep and 30 inches or 42 inches tall. They also come in the same size widths as the base cabinets. Wall cabinets also come in several different heights and depths for locations such as over the refrigerator or over the microwave/hood range unit. With custom kitchen cabinets, you have even more choices available, since the kitchen cabinets will be created specifically for your kitchen space.

Different semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers make different-sized kitchen cabinets for all sorts of special looks and situations. It is not uncommon to have one cabinet extend beyond adjacent cabinets to create a distinguished look. It pays to shop around to see all of the different possibilities and special cabinet features offered by the custom and semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers.

One of the biggest advantages to true custom kitchen cabinets is the ability to make one giant base or wall kitchen cabinet instead of separate boxes that are screwed together by the installer at the jobsite. A custom-cabinet maker can easily make one giant base cabinet 8 feet long that installs as if it were a piece of furniture. The same is true for wall kitchen cabinets. The advantage of this method is the lack of vertical seams where two traditional cabinet boxes would mate up to one another.

Pay particular attention to the materials used to build the kitchen cabinets. Some kitchen cabinets are made with minimal-quality engineered lumber, particleboard, or fiberboard. . If you plan to load a wall cabinet with heavy traditional china, the weight of the dishes may cause the cabinet to pull apart over time. This is particularly true when it comes to the semi-custom cabinets that the name brand cabinet manufacturers sell at the big box stores (which is why price is not always an accurate gauge of cabinet quality). Many of the RTA Kitchen Cabinet manufacturers use solid plywood sides, which obviously creates a strong kitchen cabinet box than a particleboard or fiberboard box. When it comes to custom cabinets, the material choices are endless and can usually be specified by the customer.

Another factor that will determine the price of kitchen cabinets is the material used to hold it together. Custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers will often use a combination of dovetailed joints, wood biscuits, and glue to create tight joints. Mid-grade kitchen cabinets will have a wide range of materials holding them together (staples and nails on the lower end, to cam lock assembly and wood glue on the higher end). Most RTA Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers utilize the cam lock system, which creates a nice sturdy cabinet, and when enhanced with wood glue, can last a life time. Steer away from any kitchen cabinets that are using staples, wooden dowels, or just screws. The strength of the cabinet will be compromised at the joints with these weaker joining materials.
